Manipur Consumer Affairs Food & Public distribution (CAFPD) Minister L Susindro has condemned the bomb threat towards staff of FCI godowns and appealed not to disturb the respective staff, drivers and workers of FCI godowns while delivering rice to the beneficiaries under National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Due to threat from unknown miscreants towards workers of FCI godown, Sangaiprou in Imphal West, the said godown has been temporarily shut down a few months ago.

Speaking to the media at FCI godown in Sangaiprou, Minister Susindro said a video went viral on social media showing that lifting of rice quota from the godown has started for distribution at Saikul and Noney district. He clarified that the video went viral due to some misunderstanding.

Permission has already been granted for lifting of rations from the godown to distribute at valley districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching.

But due to threat from unknown miscreants, drivers and laborers are not able to come to the godown to collect the rice quota from the godown, he added.

Stating that contractors are not responsible for collecting rice from the godown, he urged the respective MLAs of different assembly constituencies to collect their respective allocated quota from the godown through their own drivers and labourers.

He said, after considering the issues faced by the public who are unable to get ration, he took such steps. Despite the government taking various security measures at different FCI godowns, the government cannot provide adequate security for each driver and labourers, he added.

If necessary, the government will set up open stalls at godowns in order to get the needs of the people, he added.
