Members of Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (Meelal), Kangleipak, and Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak, held a meeting with the Language Planning and Implementation Department director Laishram Nandakumar at his office in Babupara on Monday.
The meeting was held regarding the statement made by Education Minister Basantakumar during the ongoing Assembly on the 27 letters of Meetei Mayek.
Minister Basanta on February 23 said that the present 27 letters of Meetei Mayek are not enough to read the Puya and that some changes will be made after seeking advice from experts.
Meelal, in a release, clarified that changes will not be made to the 27 letters script currently in use as the students have been learning the language and are also in the syllabus of the MA students.
The release further said that an order will be released regarding the matter by the concerned department.
It also informed all the candidates who have passed the Meetei Mayek TET 2016 exam to attend the meeting to be held with the members of Meelal on March 19 at 11 am.
