Continuing its movement to promote Meetei Mayek, the Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (Meelal) Kangleipak along with Lamangdong Pana Meelal conducted Meetei mayek classes for inmates staying at Moireng Ibudhou Thangjing Guest House on Thursday.
The activity was carried out under the initiative of the state Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation, stated a release. As many as 285 individuals from Khumujamba Meetei Leikai in Churachandpur and Phougakchao Ekhai staying at the guest house attended the classes, it stated.
The event saw participation from Meelal president Khaidem Ingocha Meetei, working president Shadokpam Tomba Mangang, secretary general Langonjam Nongmailembi, Pebam Ibohal and Lourembam Bilasini, both from Churachandpur Khumujamba Meetei Leikai and Thokchom Jati from Phougakchao Ekhai among others, it said.
Attendees also observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls of those killed in the ongoing conflict, it mentioned. Meelal also distributed Meetei Mayek books to the attendees, it added.
During the event, Meelal secretary education Paonam Thakaba Meetei informed that the Meetei Mayek competition earlier scheduled to be held on May 7, but postponed owing to the conflict, will be held at the allotted centres on September 24, the release said. It also notified all those who have not yet submitted their forms to submit it to Meelal head office within September 15.
