Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) convenor Jeetendra has termed the Tuesday session of Manipur assembly ‘meaningless session’.

Speaking to press at Lamphel office, he said that COCOMI will be continuing the social boycott of the Manipur government.

Jeetendra said a COCOMI delegation had told Union Home Minister Amit Shah that if the other community apologises to the people of Manipur, then the committee will take the consent of the public to initiate a dialogue in order for normalcy to return in the state.

During the meeting with the Union Home minister, COCOMI had placed eight charter of demands that included stopping of firing in Manipur, to take necessary steps to return the displaced people to their respective homes, to open blockage on national highways for free to and fro, withdraw security forces from the educational institutions, update of NRC, destruction of poppy plantation before the coming of its harvest season, replacement of Assam Rifles by other central forces and to disband SoO agreement, Jeetendra informed.

He further informed that the union home minister appealed to COCOMI to initiate a dialogue to bring back normalcy in Manipur. However, COCOMI responded that if the other community who is involved in the present turmoil apologise, then the coordinating body will take the consent of the public to initiate the dialogue, he said.

He said the turmoil is still continuing and firings are still continuing at this juncture and hence, COCOMI cannot take any decision without the consent of the public.

Amit Shah also told COCOMI leaders that NRC will be updated and the process of retina scan has already started and is targeted to be completed by September.

Responding to the media, media coordinator of COCOMI, Somorendro Thokchom informed that regarding the sending of displaced people to their respective homes, the representatives of the coordinating body, SPs of Bishnupur, Churachandpur, CO of Kumaon regiment deputed at Phougakchao area along with people of Moirang, Bishnupur and surrounding areas held a meeting on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the CO of Kumaon Regiment told the people that Phougakchao area is still a sensitive zone and returning of displaced people to their respective homes in Churachandpur district is not safe, he added.

Somorendro further said if the government fails to take necessary steps for returning of displaced people in Churachandpur district to their respective homes within two-three days, then COCOMI will take up intensified steps.
