The Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) on Friday wrote to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) urging it not to shift the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra from Kakching, Manipur.
The Letter signed by JNGVO President Ksh Chhatradhari Singh and general secretary N Bheigyachandra Singh said that the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra was inaugurated at Kakching by Union Minister of State for External Affairs, RK Ranjan on November 19, 2021.
It noted that the number of applicants seeking online appointments was sparse in the initial days, however the numbers gradually increased. The prevailing crisis in the state which erupted on May 3, 2023 resulted in blocking of any online appointment, which has not been resolved till now, the organisation said.
JNGVO lamented that the blockade has not been lifted even though the internet facilities have been restored many months back. It expressed apprehension that the Passport Seva Kendra might be shifted from Kakching to Churachandpur at the whims of some individuals.
There will be no hue and cry when a new Seva Kendra is opened at Churachandpur, it added.
It asserted that the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra at Kakching has been providing facilitations to the people of Kakching, Tengnoupal, Chandel and Thoubal District as well as parts of Imphal West District. It reiterated its appeal to the Ministry not to shift the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra from Kakching in the larger interest of the people.
