Mark Haokip’s bail on hold

The Special Judge (NIA) had ruled the state government applications to set aside or modify bail of Mark Thangmang Haokip as not maintainable which was again challenged by the state government at the High Court of Manipur.

As the Manipur High Court contemplates on the challenge of Mark Haokip’s bail issued by a Special Judge (NIA), his release has been kept on hold till Thursday.

It may be mentioned that the Special Judge (NIA) had ruled the state government applications to set aside or modify bail of Mark Thangmang Haokip as not maintainable which was again challenged by the state government at the High Court of Manipur.

During the hearing, the AG of the state submitted that he needed to go through the written submission filed by the wife of Mark Haokip.

While, senior counsel of respondent submitted that no stay order should be granted at this stage of the case.
However, the release order of Mark Haokip is in the custody of jail authority and as the hearing of the case could not be concluded today, the HC directed it to maintain status quo till thursday.

It should be mentioned that the Special Judge (NIA) has passed an order of releasing Mark Haokip by stating that the state government's two applications of setting aside or modify bail order of March 28, 2023 was not maintainable as barred by principles embodied in S.362 CrPC.

The state challenged the Special Judge (NIA) order that passed the bail order and sought for stay of the bail order.
