Mark Haokip remanded in judicial custody till June 21

As per investigation, it was established that Mark Haokip was found guilty of forging official documents and is charged for attempting to wage war against the nation.

Session Judge, Imphal West on Thursday remanded Mark Haokip in 13-day judicial custody till June 21.

Public prosecutor submitted that Mark Haokip was arrested on May 30 on the allegation that he, through his propaganda and instigation, mobilised people and obstructed when people went for tree plantation programme at Thangjing hills, due to which the matter was likely to be converted into communal hatred/tension between Meitei and Kuki Communities in the state.

The PP further stated that the accused is using Social Media platform to create instability, communal hatred, animosity, inciting violence, false propaganda to breed hatred and violence to achieve Organisational Goal (Democratic Republic of Kukiland) and to gain Sovereign power against the state for the so called Kukiland which comprises of area under India, Burma and Bangladesh.

On further investigation by IO, bank statements are discovered revealing multiple transactions from numerous other accounts running 276 pages in total. And these transactions are highly suspected to be associated with terror funding, as per the investigation by the IO, adding that he is charged with attempting to wage war against the nation.

The PP further stated that it was established that the accused person is also found guilty of forging official documents, i.e., his own character or verification certificate which was issued by Churachandpur Police Station for use in applying for Indian Passport.

From the submission of the PP and on perusal of the materials on record, the court is of the opinion that, since the investigation is at the early stage and with the other co-accused to be arrested, it would be proper to allow the prayer of the IO for the smooth and proper investigation in the case and remanded Mark Haokip in judicial custody.
