Mark Haokip Case: Multiple transaction for terrorist activities found

A Special Investigating Team (SIT) formed in connection with the case of Mark Thangmang Haokip found transaction of funds from multiple sources for various terrorist activities.

Inspector General of Police Themthing Ngashangva on Monday said that a Special Investigating Team (SIT) has been formed in connection with the case of Mark Thangmang Haokip. The investigations found that transaction of funds from multiple sources have been made for various terrorist activities and conspiracies.

The SIT comprises additional superintendent of police Rattana Ngasekpam as leading investigating officer, assisted by SDPO, Imphal and officer-in-charge of Imphal Police Station.

During the investigation of Mark Thangmang Haokip alias Thangkhomang, son of M Limkhosei Haokip, self-style president of ‘The Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland (DRK)’ and his other outfit members, it was found that they operated several bank accounts, Themthing said.

In particular, two bank accounts have come to light. Banking transactions in one of the bank accounts reveal a total of 196 pages of multiple and varied transactions and in another account it runs over 80 pages of transactions from various multiple sources, covering a large amount of money (total pages of 286 pages Bank transaction Statement), he said.

The multiple transactions from multiple sources are being investigated in details, the source of funding and use in various terrorist acts and terrorist conspiracy is being investigated thoroughly, he added.

In the course of investigation, numerous incriminating documents including electronic and digital records have been recovered and are being examined by the Forensic Science Laboratory, the IGP added.

The investigation further revealed that Mark and his other outfit members through their machineries launched propaganda to create a pan secessionist movement for spreading hatred and violence to achieve their organisational goal i.e. (Democratic Republic of Kukiland).

The outfit's aim is to gain sovereign power against the state for the so-called Kukiland, which comprises areas under India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, Themthing added.

On examination of electronic records seized from Mark Thangmang Haokip, it revealed many, incriminating articles, documents, photographs, outfit designed logos of the organisation (DRK) etc. The same have been seized following due procedure of law.

Other electronic records are still under active examination by the Forensic Science laboratory, he added.

In the course of investigation, it has also come to light that Mark Haokip committed forgery of records for processing his Indian Passport Application. Investigation is in full swing and making considerable progress, said IGP, Themthing.
