Many are deprived of the Social Welfare department schemes due to lack of awareness and lack of proper channels for applying the scheme, Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar said in Imphal West on Monday.
The MLA was speaking as chief guest of the Special Programme for WheelChair Distribution and aid to Differently Abled Persons organised by New Hope Foundation for Disabilities at Manipur Press Club in Imphal West.
"With the coming of the new government and new dynamic minister of the department H Dingo, it is believed that the welfare schemes will reach till the last person, he added.
The MLA also said contributions of people with disablities (PWD) are not less than normal persons in the society. “They should be regarded as abled persons not disable,” he said.
As a people representative, the MLA assured to take up every possible measure for the well being of the specially abled persons and stated that “humanitarian service is the greatest service.”
Delivering the keynote address of the programme, social media influencer RK Echanthoibi stressed the need to have a common platform for all the associations and NGOs working for people with disabilities.
Pointing out that some associations and NGOs have been taking up profitable business in the name of PWD, she apprised the public to stay alert from such frauds.
The function was also attended by AMUCO president Nando Luwang; pradhan of Thongju GP N Kanan Chanu; clinical psychologist Aring; social worker Kh Binarani and president of Poirei Leimarol Meirapaibi Ima Memchoubi as guests of honour and was presided by founder of the foundation Debendra Chingangbam.
