Manipuris in Korea, in solidarity with the affected communities, have decided to cancel Ningol Chakouba this year, stated a joint release on Monday. The initiative underscores the collective responsibility felt by the ningols of various Manipuri communities living outside for their fellow Manipuris enduring hardships due to the conflict, it stated.

The funds traditionally earmarked for the celebration, combined with contributions from the ningols and support from the GMF South Korea Chapter have been dedicated to supporting relief camps for IDPs affected by the ethnic conflict, it mentioned.

‘During these challenging times, the essence of Ningol Chakouba extends beyond our immediate families to encompass the larger Manipuri family. Our decision to dedicate the celebration funds towards IDPs serves as testimony for our hearts, minds and feelings for standing together united, despite physical distances, with our unfortunate IPDs in the face of adversity brought by the ongoing conflict,’ stated the release.

KMA and GMF South Korea Chapter also called on the broader community to join hands in supporting such effort, it stated. It expressed belief that by standing together with the IDPs at such critical times, the Manipuri community can bring about positive change and alleviate, to some degree at the least, the sufferings of those severely affected by the conflict. It also prayed that the ongoing crisis ends soon.
