The Manipuri Meitei Association Bangalore (MMAB) on Sunday observed the 132nd Patriots' Day commemorating the sacrifice of the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War 1891 with the Manipuri community in Bangalore paying homage to the ancestors.
The commemorative event was held at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, stated the association in a release.
MMAB chief coordinator Arun Yambem, historian Malem Ningthouja, Naga leader Ashang Kasar, Dr Arambam Noni, Dr Bimol Akoijam and MMAB president Rajkumar Jhaljit were the resource persons at the event, it stated.
They gave insights on the significance of the Anglo-Manipur War - 1891, the paramount role of educators, importance of drawing lessons from historical defeats and applying these insights in the contemporary context to build a resilient future and also stressed the need for indigenous communities to stay united and harmonious, it mentioned.
Attendees also sang the National Anthem, displayed banners and raised slogans seeking equal rights and access to natural resources for Meitei in Manipur, to stop narco-terrorism and illegal immigration and to protect the state’s unity, it added.
