The Meetei Council Moreh, Manipur on Monday lambasted KukI Inpi Tengnoupal’s statement issued on Sunday, which stated that resettlement of the Meiteis in Moreh town should only be done after a political solution has been reached, and termed it as comical.
The council, in a release, pointed out that the Meeteis have been residing in Moreh town since 1940 and expressed shock over the ludicrous rules set by the Kukis against the Meiteis of Moreh.
It maintained that any Manipuris have the right to settle anywhere in Manipur and asserted that the Meiteis in Moreh need not acquire such absurd permission from the Kukis to return back to their rightful place.
‘It would be a foolish part on the Kukis, most of whom are illegal immigrants from Myanmar, to place such insults against the Meiteis just because they are favoured by the Central government', it stated.
It stated that the Kukis’ impossible dream of creating a separate homeland, backfired and instead renewed a sense of unity among the Meeteis to protect the state’s integrity from their claws.
