Women vendors of Ima Market on Thursday raised grave concerns as waterlogging and flooding had submerged goods worth crores of rupees, as a result of which, Lukmai Sellup, a women vendors body, on Thursday demanded appropriate monetary compensation from state authorities for the losses incurred by the vendors.

Speaking to the media, an Ima market fish vendor stated that the flood had submerged all goods kept at the market putting tremendous strain on vendors.

She further highlighted that essential market equipment such as generators and others have been submerged.

“The flood is a detrimental blow to the livelihoods and the local economy,” she added.

Meanwhile, another woman vendor highlighted the economic importance of the economy in the state. She maintained that the market’s operation could be severely disrupted if immediate action were not taken.

“The submerged good storage basement has become a cause for concern as it may cease market activity for a very long time,” she said. Therefore, she called upon the government to intervene and provide monetary compensation for vendors to aid in recuperating their losses.
