Two individuals who were arrested by security forces for possession of illegal arms on Thursday were forcibly snatched from police custody by a mob of women on the same day.
On Thursday around 9.15 am, security personnel arrested two individuals for illegal possession of arms during frisking and checking at Joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) located at Torbung Bangla located at the border of Churachandpur and Bishnupur district.
The arrested persons are James Haokip, son of Ngulkholet of Keithelmanbi Village, Kangpokpi District and Seiminlen Doungel, son of Helthong of Tuibong, Churachandpur District.
A Scorpio Turbo bearing Regd No: MN01K9493 and one 9 mm Pistol along with a magazine were seized from them.
As per reports, a Churachandpur district police team led by Piangkhanmuan, ASP(L/O) CCP, rushed to the spot and requested 16 Kumaon and 10 Bn BSF for a bullet proof vehicle and escorts to take the men to Churachandpur.
But none was available and so they decided to go without it.
Reports added that after completing the formalities, they were on their way back with the two arrested persons and the seized items.
But they were stopped and attacked by about 200 women at Kaprang Village around 3:45 PM. The women argued and fought with the team and took away the men and the seized car, said the reports.
A case under FIR No. 69(01)2024 CCP-PS u/s 143/149/506/224/225/186/34 IPC, 25(1-C) Arms Act has been registered against the women mob and the two men.
