A woman was found hanging at a tree near the family quarter of 5th Assam Rifles at Kondong Lairembi Check Post under Moreh Police Station at around 10.30 am on Friday, sources said.

The sources said that the woman was identified as one Rita Gautam, 41, wife of havildar Laxman Gautam of 5th AR, a resident of the family quarter. It may be mentioned that 5th AR was installed at Moreh just three days ago.

A farewell programme as well as handing over the charges by 43-AR was scheduled to be organised on Friday, the sources said, adding that the Moreh Police Station has registered a case in connection with the incident.
