Manipur Violence: Two killed, two injured in Koutruk

In Koutruk area, 21 personnel drawn from various IRB battalions while in nearby National Sports University campus 22 personnel from Imphal West district police and 23 personnel from 7 MR were stationed.

Two village volunteers were killed and another two sustained injuries in an attack carried out by Kuki militants in the intervening area of Koutruk, Imphal West and Bethel, Kangpokpi district at around 2 pm on Tuesday.

The two deceased are identified as Maisnam Khaba@ Ibomcha, 23 son of M Hemanta of Sagoltongba Mamang Leikai Imphal West and Nongthombam Michealdev, 34, son of (L) Imo of Konung Leikai, Palace Compound Imphal East.

N Michaeldev’s head had been destroyed as he got numerous bullet injuries on his head, reports said. Bodies of both the deceased have been kept at RIMS mortuary.

Police have confirmed the death of the two village volunteers.

The two injured are Wangjam Vikas, 20 son of Baleshore of Irilbung Machahal and Ngangom Sanjit, 19 son of Ng Sarat of Kadangband Part-2.

W Vikas sustained bullet injury on his right leg and Ng Sanjit fractured his waist while jumping down the hill.

Firing was still going on till the filing of this report.

It may be mentioned that, additional state forces were deployed in vulnerable areas in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching and Thoubal districts since January 22 in the wake of attacks carried out against both civilians and security forces by Kuki militants.

On the other hand, Kuki militants also attacked Khamenlok area under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang Police Station, Imphal East at around 9 am on Tuesday.

The Kuki militants fired three bombs and several rounds of bullets from Ramchandra Hill. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Earlier on Saturday, a Kuki militant was killed in a gunfight with village volunteers in Khamenlok area bordering Omphal East and Kangpokpi district.

Four village volunteers also sustained injuries.
