Manipur Violence: Koutruk attacked, bombs launched at Senjam Chirang

As per sources, Kuki militants targeted the village of Koutruk under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal East district, Manipur using bombs and advanced weapons from Haraothel in Kangpokpi District.

Fresh incidents of attacks were carried out at Koutruk around 11.30 pm on Monday while Senjam Chirang in Imphal East, Manipur was attacked with bombs by Kuki militants on Tuesday, following the recent incidents of violence in Jiribam district.

As per sources, Kuki militants targeted the village of Koutruk under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal East district, Manipur using bombs and advanced weapons from Haraothel in Kangpokpi District. The 2nd IRB and 3rd IRB along with 7th MR stationed at Koutruk and village volunteers retaliated to the attack which lasted till 4 am of Tuesday.

According to sources, explosives were triggered from Koutruk towards Haraothel. It is believed that the Kuki militants might have sustained injuries from the gunfight, the sources said.

The militants again started attacking on Tuesday around 5.40 am. State forces along with the village volunteers also retaliated to the attack and engaged in heavy gunbattle till 6.10 am. No casualties have been reported. 

Meanwhile, Kuki Militants detonated eight bombs at Senjam Chirang under Lamshang police station in Imphal East District on Tuesday around 2.40 pm.

As per sources, out of the eight bombs, five were exploded.

The Kuki militants attacked the village using sophisticated weapons and explosives from Haraothel in Kangpokpi district, it said.

As per sources, out of the eight bombs deployed, four bombs were exploded near the Santry Post of 6th MR situated behind Ema Kounu Temple. While, one bomb exploded near the fencing between 67th Bn Alpha Company CRPF and 6th MR in Ema Kounu Temple.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.  

It is said that out of the three remaining unexploded bombs, one was found near a granary of Yengkhom Budhi, 35, son of (L) Y Amu from Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai. Meanwhile, one bomb has been located near Ema Kounu Temple while another submerged in the river and cannot be seen. Both of these potential threats were still present in the area.

The sources further said that the MR retaliated following the detonation of the bomb at their Santry Post. It may be mentioned that Haraothel, the base camp of Kuki militants, is positioned a mere 50 meters away from an Assam Rifles post.

Meanwhile, Bomb Disposal Squad safely disposed of the two unexploded bombs at Tendongyan Hill range, located under Sekmai Police Station.
