The Manipur government has decided to continue suspension of operation of mobile towers catering internet services of the stretch of 2 Km radius along adjoining areas of some particular districts for another 15 days with immediate effect in the public interest.
Latest orders issued by the government on Monday stated that suspension of operation of the mobile towers catering services of the stretch of 2 Km radius along adjoining areas between districts of Chandel and Kakching, Churachandpur and Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Kakching, Kangpokpi and Imphal West, Kangpokpi and Imphal East, Kangpokpi and Thoubal and Tengnoupal and Kakching, districts has been extended for another 15 days till January 2, 2024.
The order issued by Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, T Ranjit Singh, stated that the move was taken after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation and its possible correlation with the general operation of internet suspension in the last fortnight.
It directed all mobile service providers to ensure compliance of the order and also urged all internet users to refrain from activities which may cause situations which will warrant for suspension of internet services in future.
The same is carried out with the approval of the competent authority under Rule 2 of Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017 and is subject to review at any point of time, it stated.
Mention may be made that the State government on December 3 relaxed the suspension of internet/mobile data, MMS services in the territorial jurisdiction of the state of Manipur except for the mobile towers catering services of the stretch of 2 Km radius along adjoining areas of the said districts for 15 days till December 18, 2023.
