Security forces came under multiple attacks from Kuki militants at different locations in Moreh, Tengnoupal district during which one IRB personnel attached with special police commandos and one havildar were killed.
The deceased IRB personnel has been identified as one W Somorjit, Rifleman (6MR) of Malom Tuliyaima and Takhellambam Saileshwor Singh, 40, of Lamsang Aksham.
As per reports, W Somorjit succumbed to his injuries after sustaining bullet injuries in an attack near Hotel DeKhunai, Moreh.
He was shot by a sniper bullet when he was trying to remove the stone barriers set up by the Kukis for the CDO bullet proof gypsy to pass.
Takhellambam Sailehwor Singh was killed in a separate attack.
As many as seven security personnel were injured in attacks launched by suspected Kuki militants at Tengnoupal district under the jurisdiction of Moreh Police station on Wednesday.
The injured are Sidhrath Thokchom (ASI) and Bhim Singh (constable), Wangkhem Surjit Singh (1st MR attached to CDO), 35, of Thoubal Athokpam, Laitonjam Bebekananda Singh (Inspector) of Kongba bazar, Ingudam Momocha Singh (Head Constable), 37, of Saijang Mayai Leikai, Shinam Rocky Singh, 41, (attached to CDO) of Mongsangei School Leirak, and Md Konnal Hassan (3rd IRB ), 37, of Sangaiyumpham Cherapur.
The injured persons have been evacuated to Imphal by helicopter for treatment.
Reports said that, prior to the incident Kuki militants attacked the 6th MR Post near Kondong Lairembi, Moreh during the wee hours at around 3.30am and the security personnels stationed at the post also retaliated to the attack.
Reports added that the Kuki militants also fired RPGs at the CDO personnels stationed at Hotel DeKhunai on Wednesday morning around 5.15 am.
Inspector Bebakananda’s team including deceased Takhellambam Saileshwor Singh were attacked at a different location, as per sources.
Inspector Bebekananda has been discharged from KLP hospital as his injuries were minor. The body of Late Takhellambam Saileshwor Singh will be transported to Imphal tomorrow, as per sources.
No casualties were reported from the particular attack at 6th MR post, but some properties and a generator of the hotel were destroyed.
Meanwhile Meitei Council Moreh, Manipur (MCM) on Wednesday vehemently condemned the alleged coordinated attacks by the Kuki militants and the PDF of Myanmar on the security forces maintaining law and order at Moreh.
The Council, in a release, expressed grief that two security personnel were killed while four sustained injuries in the combined unrestrained attack allegedly carried out by Kuki militants andPDF using RPG and mortar bombs. It noted that several buildings and properties have also been damaged in the exchange of fire.
‘It is now evident that the Kuki militants supported by the Myanmar militants have waged war against the Indian security forces and it no longer remains a simple law and order problem in the Moreh town’, the release asserted.
It stressed the need for a strong action from the central and state governments to flush out the militants who have started allegedly waging war against the Indian security forces.
It further urged the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister and the Home Minister as well as the Manipur Chief Minister to initiate immediate measures to flush out the militants to restore Moreh to the pre-1991 status and ensure that peace return to Manipur.
