Villagers of Koutruk Chingya Leikai, Awang Leikai and Makha Leikai are facing fear and apprehensions as new bunkers are being set up by the Kuki militants on the hills neighbouring to Koutruk Ching Leikai under Lamshang Police Station, Imphal West.

According to the villagers, more bunkers have been set up in the said area in the last few days. The bunkers can be seen very vividly from Koutruk Awang Leikai and vehicles were also seen going towards the new tin roofed bunker, added the villagers.

As per drone footage, a long dug up passage like tunnel can be seen on the back side of the bunkers, and it is believed that it might be their safe passage; they are also seen carrying out foot patrolling. There is a high chance of the Kuki militants dominating the Meitei villagers if the government fails to increase the strength of the IRB personnel in Koutruk Ching leikai and more bunkers will be required in the Meitei villages, said the villagers.

They recalled that a bomb fired by the Kuki militants exploded near the IRB bunker. It may be mentioned that Meitei villagers of the area have been taking shelter in safe places since the Kukis launched attacks on villagers of Koutruk Ching Leikai.

The villagers also alleged the Central forces’ post in Haraothel have been turning a blind eye on the movements of the Kuki militants.
