Manipur Unrest: Kuki militants continue to attack Koutruk

Two bombs fired by the Kuki militants exploded on the hills without reaching Koutruk Ching Leikai, sources said.

Kuki militants launched an attack by deploying gunfire and bombs at Koutruk Ching Leikai under Lamshang Police station, Imphal West on Tuesday at 11 am.

Two bombs fired by the Kuki militants exploded on the hills without reaching Koutruk Ching Leikai, as per sources. IRB personnels and village volunteers retaliated to the attack and the gunfight continued till 12 pm. No casualties were reported from the IRB and village volunteers.

As per reports, Kuki militants again attacked Koutruk from Bethel, Kangpokpi district at 8 pm and village volunteers also retaliated to the attack. Gunfight continued till the filling of this report.

It may be mentioned that Kuki militants had attacked Koutruk earlier on Sunday around 6pm but the village volunteers did not retaliate to the attack. They again launched an attack towards Koutruk on Monday around 7pm, and the village volunteers also retaliated.

Observing the attacks carried out by the Kuki militants, Koutruk villagers said that the Kuki militants have been attacking the villages of Koutruk, Kanto Sabal and Senjam Chirang whenever tension arises in places like Moreh.

Villagers also alleged that it is the strategy of the Kuki militants to divert attention.
