Manipur Unrest: Kuki militants continue attacks

Kuki militants continued attacking Meitei villages as Luwangsangol and Phaileng areas came under a volley of bullets and bombs around 9.30 pm on Sunday.

The VDF post at Laipat Parao retaliated when the Kuki militants started firing towards Pangaltabi and Sekmai Parao. The exchange of gunfire continued till 2 am. No casualties have been reported from among the VDF personnel. 

Meanwhile in a reported case of intimidation, suspected Kuki militants snatched the keys from the vehicle used for a contract work at 57th Mountain Division Headquarters at Leimakhong in Senapati district around 9 am on Monday.   

One N Inao of Kanto Sabal is the owner of the vehicle (Mahindra Furio-MN05C/4065). Karam Rishikanta ,45, son of K Jana ki of Kanto Sabal was driving the vehicle when the incident took place. He was driving the vehicle for a contract work at Military Hospital located inside the 57th Mountain Division H/Q Leimakhong.

The suspected Kuki militants snatched and took away the keys from the vehicle while he was putting his entries at the Ex-servicemen Colony Gate. After he complained about the issue at the Sikh Regiment which is stationed at the Entry Gate, the keys were finally returned to the driver, after messages were passed on through a series of communications.  

The contractors working inside the Army camp declared that they will not continue their services if they are going to face similar intimidations and harassments from the Kuki militants in the future. To resolve the issue, Army Authority reportedly informed that they will create a separate route for the Meitei contract workers.
