Following the killing of a Meitei villager in Jiribam, the district administration has stepped up security measures in the border areas in areas bordering Tamenglong district and begun evacuating villagers to safer areas.

Suspected Kuki Militants had perpetrated a heinous act by killing a Meitei Villager identified as S Sarat along Phaitol Road under Jiribam District Police Station, on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, Kuki militants have started attacking Meitei militants intermittently on Friday.

The Meitei village volunteers swiftly retaliated to the gunfire. Following a brief lull, tensions reignited as both parties resumed their exchange of gunfire, escalating the conflict further.

Mention may be made that, the district administrations of Jiribam and Tamenglong districts had imposed prohibitory orders in areas adjoining the two districts.

As per sources, in response to the tragic event, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for the Brutal Killing of Soibam Sarat was swiftly established, condemning the brutal murder of the villager.

The JAC issued a resolute demand for the immediate arrest of the identified perpetrator, Gousang, within 48 hours.

The JAC further reinforced its stance and issued a demand for the arrest of the involved perpetrator, Gousang, from Phaitol, along with a Bolero (AS 27A/2905), reportedly utilised in the heinous murder, within 48 hours, ensuring that both the suspect and the vehicle are subjected to due legal proceedings.

Furthermore, the JAC remained steadfast in its stance, refusing to claim the body of Sarat until its demands were met.

In addition, the JAC pressed for the deployment of sufficient security personnel to safeguard the Meitei community in the unsafe areas. Moreover, it insisted on providing a government job to the family of the deceased as part of their demands.

The JAC also submitted the ultimatum to the Chief Minister through DC of Jiribam.
