The Manipur government has decided to extend suspension of internet service, mobile data services and internet/data services across Churachandpur district for another five days with immediate effect in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the district.
Latest orders issued by Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur Vineet Joshi on Tuesday said that the state government took the move to suspend mobile internet services through VPN in the whole revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur district for another five days with immediate effect till 1:40 am of Monday in public interest.
It directed all mobile service providers to ensure compliance of the order and also urged all internet users to refrain from activities which may cause situations which will warrant for suspension of internet services in future.
The order is issued under the powers conferred under Rule 2 of Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017 with the approval of the competent authority and is subject to review at any point of time, it added.
It may be mentioned that the state government on February 16 suspended mobile internet services across Churachandpur district for five days with immediate effect, following the violence that broke out in the district in connection with the suspension of Head constable of Churachandpur district police from his service.
An irate mob gathered and vandalised the offices of the SP and DC in Churachandpur town and even set offices on fire.
