The mortal remains of those who were killed in the recent militant attacks in villages located on the outskirts of Imphal valley, Manipur were collected from mortuaries by members of at least five families on Tuesday, sources said.
According to the sources, the family members of (L) Toijam Chandramani and a large number of people took his lifeless body from RIMS mortuary on Tuesday.
Forty-year-old Toijam Chandramani, son of T Ingocha of Churachandpur Thengra Leikai, succumbed to his injuries after being shot by suspected Kuki militants on May 24, while trying to save Hill Valley Goodwill Mission School for the Meeteis in Kangathei, Thamnapokpi Maning in Bishnupur district from being set ablaze, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the three deceased from the Kangchup shootout on Monday morning were also taken by their respective family members on Tuesday after conducting post mortem at JNIMS mortuary.
The deceased are one 55-year-old Angom Romesh, son of Mukta of Phayeng Kharang Awang Leikai; 40-year-old Angom Rakesh, son of Tembi of Phayeng Sabal Leikai and 21-year-old Pukhrambam Nikhil, son of Nodi of Khundrakpam Lai Mamang.
They died in a shootout with the suspected Kuki militants at Chiru and Pollen village under the jurisdiction of Kangchup Police Station, Kangpokpi district.
The body of late Laishram Binod, 25, son of L Jane from Wangjing Awang Leikai Hodamba Mamang Leikai was also handed over to his family after a post mortem examination was conducted at JNIMS on Tuesday.
Binod was killed in an attack by Kuki militants at Serou Awang Leikai in Sugnu district around 5 pm on Monday. Four others were injured in the attack. His mortal remains were collected by a team of Combined Forces on Tuesday.
