Manipur University to host Youth20 Summit in May

60 delegates from Punjab, consisting of students and teachers, will visit Manipur University on March 24, 2023 and explore Manipur.

Manipur University will be hosting the Youth20 (Y20) summit on May 5 and 6, 2023 with delegates from the G20 nations attending the summit and discussing various national and international youth-centric issues.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the six-day-long Manipur University Week, which is being held from March 20-25, 2023, Vice chancellor of Manipur University professor N Lokendra on Monday informed of the summit.

The programme has been organised by Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU).

The professor highlighted that academics from abroad and the country will also participate in the summit to map out strategies and measures for youth-centric policies.

Lokendra pointed out that 60 delegates from Punjab, consisting of students and teachers, will visit Manipur University on March 24, 2023 and explore Manipur for nearly six days as a part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ initiative.

During the visit, the delegates will explore various places of the state and interact with several prominent personalities, he added.

The vice chancellor further stated that a team of teachers will arrive at the university soon for the third cycle of accreditation and assessment.

“During the visit the team will interact with the teachers and students of various departments to pass their final assessment,” Lokendra said.

On the commencement of MU week, the VC highlighted numerous sports accolades Manipur University had achieved in recent years and mentioned that the university had secured top positions in various inter-university sports championships.

"Manipur University has secured top places in various inter university championships which include wushu, archery, handball, taekwondo, weightlifting among others organised under Association of Indian Universities,” he said.

Lokendra further exhorted the students to display the spirit of sportsmanship, brotherhood and fraternity during the sports and cultural meet.

In the opening ceremony on Monday, students took the sacred flame from Kangla Fort and commenced a torch rally up to Manipur University. Meanwhile, a march-past competition was also held during the ceremony in which contingents of around 22 departments from the university participated.

Assistant director of Sports, Manipur University, Ch Pradeep singh; dean of Students’ Welfare, Moirangthem Premjit Singh; MUTA president Irom Gambhir and MUSU president Thokchom Sonamani among others attended the ceremony.
