A man from Assam along with one local from Yairipok Singa, Thoubal district in possession of large quantity of brown sugar were apprehended at Yairipok in Thoubal district by a combined force of Thoubal police and 16th AR as part of the War on Drugs 2.0 on Friday.
According to police, based on a tip-off, a team of commando unit Thoubal police and 16th Assam Rifles led by additional SP (Ops) O Wangkhomba assisted by OC inspector K Nitaranjan under the supervision of Thoubal district police SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam conducted search and seizure at a residence at Yairipok Singa under the Yairipok police station.
The team apprehended the home owner namely Md Jalaluddin, 56, son of Md Salauddin from Yairipok Singa in Thoubal district along with a man from Assam namely Jakir Hussain, 31, son of Samand Ali from Hailakandi district, Assam in possession of 22 soap cases of suspected brown sugar weighing 516.2 gms, it added.
The source stated that the team seized the brown sugar and Jakir’s bolero car with registration number AS 11 P3381. On questioning, Jakir disclosed that he had come all the way from Assam to Yairipok Singa to procure the drugs, it continued.
The two individuals along with the seized items were handed over to the Yairipok police station, and the Yairipok police filed a case under ND and PS Act against the two individuals, it added.
