Manipur: Truck drivers withdraw agitation

A meeting with Transport Minister Khasim Vashum and Karong MLA Kumo Sha was held at Senapati on Monday.

Senapati District Truck Owners Association (SDTOA) and Senapati District Truck Drivers’ Union (SDTDU) have called off its “steering down agitation” with effect from Tuesday, following a meeting with Transport Minister Khasim Vashum and Karong MLA Kumo Sha at Senapati on Monday.

A statement signed by Khasim Vashum, J Kumo Sha, and SDTOA and SDTDU stated that during the meeting, both sides deliberated on four points, including the details of a press note which was issued by Manipur Police Control Room on Friday.

The press note mentioned that Manipur Police arrested one suspected active member of the proscribed KYKL from Imphal West identified as RK Jitensana, alias Nanao, 43, of Pangei Leiram Mapan near MPTC gate who is suspected to be involved in the assault of truck drivers at Sekmai on the night of February 16, as per the statement.

The statement also urged the state government to provide an ROP in order to give due security to the trucks plying on National Highway 2 and take strict action against illegal collection of taxes on sands.

Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, ADM, Senapati, and Additional SP, Senapati were also present at the meeting, it mentioned.
