The Manipur government on Tuesday approved to reopen the Kangla, a major attraction of the state, to visitors from Wednesday, October 6.
The Kangla Board, Imphal said in a notification that the Kangla will be reopened to visitors, including morning/evening walking. However, visitors should adhere to COVID-19 SOP.
Kangla which lies in the heart of Imphal and houses the Kangla Fort, the king’s palace and several other ancient structures, was closed to the public since November, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Kangla Fort is the ancient capital of the Manipur kingdom. The Shree Govindaji Temple is situated inside the Kangla. The temple was destroyed during the great earthquake of 1868, according to history, and was rebuilt by the then ruler of Manipur, king Chandrakriti.
