Manipur: Three people shot at

One woman and two drug users were shot by armed miscreants at different locations in Manipur on Saturday.

One woman and two drug users were shot by armed miscreants at different locations in Manipur on Saturday.  

The woman was shot at Utlou near the Fire Service station along Phadibi road in Bishnupur district.

She has been identified as Moirengthem Baby Devi, 40, wife of (L) M Bishorjit Singh of Tentha Khunou near market, and presently residing at a rent located near Lamphel cinema hall. She was admitted at Nambol hospital for her treatment.

She sustained a bullet injury on her left calf. After receiving first aid from Nambol CHC Hospital, she has been referred to RIMS Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, some armed miscreants also shot two reported drug users on their legs around 7 pm at Charoibung Maning under Mayang Imphal Police Station in Imphal West in connection with a drug smuggling case, as per sources.

The drug users have been identified as Sahikhan, 25, son of Habibur of Khabeisoi, near 7 MR and Saphikun Islam, 28, son of  Aynal Haque of Banachapa, Assam.

Series of incidents continue to happen in the state

A series of unfortunate incidents continue to happen in the state with one individual abducted, a bomb found at a medical college and one dead in a lightning incident.

On Saturday, an individual identified as Aheibam Nelson Singh (33) from Nambol Sabal Leikai, who had been abducted from his residence on Thursday, was found near the Nambol Sabal Leikai Community Hall at 4 am.

On the same day at around 10 am, a hand grenade was discovered on the Counter Room table of the Saina Institute of Medical Sciences & Nursing College, located at Porompat Crossing, Porompat PS, Imphal East district. The discovery sparked fear and concern among students and faculty members.

It was reported that PREPAK (Pro) had issued a monetary demand in March 2024, indicating a possible connection to the incident. Prompt action by the Imphal East district police led to the safe disposal of the explosive device at 11:20 am, averting a potential tragedy.

Tragedy struck yet again when Hemam Hemson (27), a resident of Okshongbung, was fatally struck by lightning while working in his farm located at Okshongbung Makha Leikai under the jurisdiction of MRG-PS, Bishnupur district. The incident occurred at 11.40 am on Saturday, and despite immediate efforts, Hemson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
