Manipur: Three arrested for alleged extortion

The arrested individuals have been remanded to police custody.

Three individuals, including two non-locals, have been arrested by a team from the City Police on charges of extortion related to an underground outfit.

The arrested individuals have been remanded to police custody.

The suspects were brought before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, by the City Police Station team, who charged them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The police requested a seven-day remand to facilitate further investigation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Konthoujam Kumar Singh (46), son of the late K. Khoidum Singh of Konthoujam Mamang Leikai; Ankur Mahawar (40), son of Mahendra Mahawar of Thangal Bazar and Naveen Mahawar (48), son of Ishwarlal Mahawar of Thangal Bazar.

After reviewing the submissions from the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) and the case records, the court granted police custody remand until May 24, 2024.
