Manipur: Temporary relief camp opened for Keirao residents

The menacing hailstorm, which lasted for around two hours, destroyed numerous houses in areas under Keirao Ward No. 1-6 leaving residents without a proper shelter to brave the impending weather.

In light of the violent hailstorm which bombarded several residential areas in Imphal valley, Manipur on Sunday, a temporary relief camp has been opened for affected Keirao residents at Keirao Makting Makha Leikai in Imphal East.

The menacing hailstorm, which lasted for around two hours, destroyed numerous houses in areas under Keirao Ward No. 1-6 leaving residents without a proper shelter to brave the impending weather.

The hailstorm swept through various regions in Imphal valley destroying innumerable houses and even resulted in civil casualties.

The temporary relief camp has been put up by All Round Development Organisation (ARDO).

Speaking to the media, ARDO chief advisor MI Khan informed that nearly 2,000 households reside in Keira Assembly Constituency out of which around 500 have been affected.

Out of the 500 around 80 are in grave conditions, he added.

As per latest updates, around 350 residents are taking shelter at the temporary relief camp; the relief camp is divided for men and women.

He maintained that numerous properties including vehicles and other commodities had also been destroyed in the hailstorm.

As such, he urged authorities concerned to address the issue properly and initiate suitable protocols.
