Manipur: STDCM kicks off poster campaign

STDCM volunteers commenced the campaign at Khwairamband Ima Keithel, Imphal, by sticking posters in public areas. The posters exhorted masses to choose the candidate who would support and fight for the ST cause.

Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee (STDCM) on Thursday launched their poster campaign to draw attention of the masses around Meitei/Meetei inclusion in ST list ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

STDCM volunteers commenced the campaign at Khwairamband Ima Keithel, Imphal, by sticking posters in public areas. The posters exhorted masses to choose the candidate who would support and fight for the ST cause.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the campaign, STDCM joint secretary Moirangthem Naokhamba stated that STDCM had been striving for the demand for nearly a decade.

“We will conduct the campaign in various landmark location around the valley,” he said.

He called upon the candidates fighting in the elections to assess the eligibility of the demand and include it in their respective election manifesto.

“The demand is a call to save the Meitei community. The Meitei’s existence depends on the demand,” he said.

He maintained that people should cast their vote only to the candidate who can guarantee to fight Meitei’s constitutional safeguard.

As such he further appealed to people to support STDCM’s campaign to increase awareness ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

ST chants at Lamlong Keithel

Members of Lamlong Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup and World Meetei Council (WMC) Manipur Unit on Thursday jointly carried out a protest demonstration at Lamlong market on Thursday chanting various slogans demanding ‘ST Status for Meetei’.

The protest was headed by Lamlong Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup President RK Dhanabati, General Secretary Ibemchoubi Wahengbam, WMC Manipur Sate Unit General Secretary, K Mohen and WMC Youth Front Manipurgi President, A Sajan, stated a release.

Protesters chanted various slogans including ‘Delaying ST is denying ST; All MLAs say yes for ST; CM Biren playing politics only for his chair; CM Biren can’t compromise our future for his personal interest, Send the two reports for Meetei ST before MP election etc and also displayed placards, it mentioned.
