The first day of the 48-hour bandh imposed by the ‘JAC against the brutal killing of Takhellambam Manoranjan Singh’ across the state paralysed Imphal city. No unwanted incidents were reported.
The statewide bandh was imposed by the JAC after the chief minister allegedly failed to fulfil the demands made by the JAC within 24 hours.
The JAC had demanded to remove ineffective Central forces from the state and to deploy state forces. It also demanded to handover the unified command of law and order of Manipur to the chief minister, withdraw SoO agreement signed between Kuki militants and Centre, stop divide and rule police and to implement NRC in Manipur.
The bandh started from 5 am on Saturday and will continue till 5 am of Monday.
Bandh supporters were seen blocking the roads at Khurai Lamlong and other main roads of the Imphal city.
Khwairamband market including other markets were deserted while transport services were not seen during the first day of the bandh. However, essential services, people going for religious occasions were seen.
Schools, colleges and other institutions and financial institutions were shut down except for pharmacies and hospitals.
