Manipur: Sit-in-protest staged

The sit-in protest was organised decrying the life threat and physical assault at gunpoint to one Athokpam Chinglemba.

A one-day sit-in protest was organised at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal in Imphal East, Manipur on Tuesday decrying the life threat and physical assault at gunpoint to one Athokpam Chinglemba on Monday.

The protest was jointly organised by Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Kanglup; Ayangleima Women’s Welfare Association and League of Callow Patriots, Wangkhei Pukhri Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Imphal East.

Athokpam ongbi Babita, wife of Athokpam Chinglemba, told the media that some armed miscreants came in a four wheeler and entered their residence at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Imphal East at around 12.40 pm on Monday.

Without any queries the armed miscreants threatened her husband at gunpoint and assaulted him physically, she said.

Babita expressed disappointment on the incident and appealed not to repeat such similar incidents in the future as any misunderstanding could be solved on a negotiating table without any violence.

The incident was strongly condemned by the local club of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Imphal East.

Amid the ongoing unrest in the state, many misunderstandings might be occurring, however any misunderstandings can be solved on a negotiating table without any violence, Babita said.
