The Manipur Shiv Sena has announced a thorough investigation into the alleged conspiracy behind the viral video showing two women being paraded naked by a mob in broad daylight that surfaced on social media barely a day before the commencement of the Monsoon session of Parliament.
The video, which reportedly dates back to May 4, tarnishing the image of Manipur, a state known for its honourable treatment of women in high regard, has sparked off outrage among citizens, it said.
Addressing the media in Imphal, state party president M Tombi expressed condemnation and utter unacceptability of the heinous crime and demanded exemplary punishment against the culprits.
However, it is essential to unveil the conspiracy behind this viral video floating in the social media just a day before the Parliament sitting while the incident took place on May 4, Tombi stated.
Amid the ongoing crisis and prolonged violence in Manipur, Prime Minister Modi's recent response after a silence of 77 days drew criticism from the party. The focus solely on a single crime, overshadowing the bigger picture of the crisis, was termed a "big mistake" by the president.
While the party acknowledges the occurrence of many terrifying incidents during the crisis, he asserted that the party's primary focus remains on restoring peace for the greater interest of the public.
Tombi also highlighted the defying of SoO ground rules by certain Kuki militants and criticised the Central government for its inaction when the Manipur government, which is the home state, withdrew the agreement.
The president questioned the central government's failure to withdraw the SoO agreement, citing multiple reasons for its termination.
Additionally, he clarified that the allegation of gang rape connected to the viral video, as reported by national media, is entirely false.
The victims themselves have asserted that no such incident of rape took place, he said, appealing to the national media to refrain from adding fuel to the fire.
The Manipur Shiv Sena is determined to bring the truth to light and ensure that justice is served in this distressing case, which has cast a dark shadow on Manipur's reputation, he added.
