Manipur: SF launches operations after clashes in New Keithemanbi area

Security forces foiled an attack by armed miscreants in the general area of New Keithelmanbi, police said.

Fresh clashes between security forces and armed miscreants took place early morning on Sunday, according to a police press release.

The police report said, on the night of October 7 security forces foiled an attack by armed miscreants in the general area of New Keithelmanbi.

Thereafter, at around 4.30 am Sunday security forces deployed on the northwest periphery of Keithelmanbi detected suspicious movement of some individuals and fired illumination rounds to ascertain their identity.

The official release said, as the security forces came under fire they retaliated causing the miscreants to flee. Combing and search operations were undertaken by the security forces.

Mention may be made that fresh clashes broke out in New Keithelmani area on Thursday at around 5 am in New Keithelmanbi area on NH 37 between Kuki militants and village volunteers of Moidangpok Khunou and New Keithelmanbi Meitei village on Wednesday.

As per Keithelmanbi Police, four-five houses were reportedly set ablaze in Sinam Khaithong village. One unexploded bomb suspected to be fired by the Kuki militants landed at Moidangpok Khunou on Wednesday.

The bomb which landed in Moidangpok was recovered by a team of CID (Tech) of the bomb disposal squad. According to BDS, the bomb must have been dropped from a drone as a mortal shell cannot cover the distance from Keithelmanbi hilltop to Moidangpok.

Meanwhile, police arrested one active member of an underground organisation from Imphal West district and recovered one 9 mm pistol, three rounds of ammunition, three mobile handsets and Rs 45,000 in cash from his possession.

The police added, the arrested person is involved in extortion activities in Imphal.
