Manipur: Seven arrested in connection with attacks on civilians

In view of the recent alleged attacks on civilians by unknown miscreants in and around Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar areas, Manipur Police identified and apprehended seven individuals involved in such incidents from various places in Imphal West and Imphal East Districts.

As per a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, the apprehended individuals are L Khumukcham Brainny Singh (19), RK Ronish Singh (22) and five children in conflict with law (CCL).

The control room stated that Manipur Police registered a case and conducted an investigation, after which they were arrested. It added that further investigations are underway.

It further said that search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

The police control room also said that the situation in the state was under control and that movement of 221 and 408 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police said.

A total of 126 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 121 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it added.

The police also appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
