Manipur: Sedative drugs worth Rs 26 lakh seized, two apprehended

The seized drugs were handed over to local meira paibis and burned down to ashes.

Pambei-led UNLF has seized a huge amount of sedative drugs from a medical store and a godown worth around Rs 26 lakh and apprehended two persons on Monday. The seized drugs were handed over to local meira paibis and burned down to ashes.

Media coordinator of the outfit, Th Charairongba on Tuesday told media at a community hall located at Langol Ningthou Leikai in Imphal West that acting on an information of smuggling of some sedative drugs the outfit investigated on the matter and seized the drugs including Nitrosun 10, Diazepam and cough syrup from a medical store ‘Kangla Drugs and Surgical’ located at Naoremthong, Imphal West.

The outfit also seized same drugs from a godown located at Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak, Imphal West near St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Sangaiprou, Imphal on the same day, he added.

The medical store is owned by Nongthombam Jamesjet alias Thoi, son of Nongthombam Megajit of Naoremthong and the godown is owned by Ngariyanbam Hitler, son of late Ng Kabok of Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak, Imphal West.

Charairongba said Meghajit and Hitler are in their custody however, Jamesjet alias Thoi is at large. He cautioned Jamesjet to surrender to the outfit within three days.

Later, the seized drugs were handed over to the members of Universal Mother’s Organisation and Langol Apunba Meira Paibi for disposal.

President of Langol Apunba Nupi Lup, Akham ongbi Tilotama Leima said it is unfortunate that some people are conducting illegal business by selling sedative drugs even as the people of Manipur are suffering due to the crisis for the last over one year.

She said those who are apprehended in connection with the matter should be given severe punishment by the outfit.

The women’s body will be supporting the activities of the outfit which is for the better welfare of the society, said Tilotama.

Later, the seized drugs were burnt down by the members of Universal Mother’s Organisation and Langol Apunba Meira Paibi.
