Manipur: Security forces continue search, area domination operations

Movement of 214 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations, police said.

Security forces continue to carry out search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching and Thoubal Districts on Sunday.

According to a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors.

It also mentioned that security forces intercepted one Meitei individual at Gamgiphai checkpost while trying to head towards Kangpokpi under the alleged influence of alcohol. It said that the individual has been safely handed over to Sekmai police station for handing him over to his family.

The statement further said that senior police officers of Manipur police, headed by IGP and DIGP, are on a visit to supervise and oversee matters in c/w Myanmar border migration issues.

It also said that movement of 214 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 141 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 314 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it added.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
