The foundation stone for the Jiribam-Imphal line was laid in 2008, and the project has faced several delays due to challenging terrain and other logistical issues.

The Jiribam-Khongsang section, which includes Khongsang Railway Station, was inaugurated and made operational on August 31, 2022.
