Manipur CEO Rajesh Agrawal on Sunday said that adequate CAPF personnel have been deployed in all the polling stations, especially in hill districts, to ensure that the voters can come out freely and exercise their franchise without any intimidation from external forces.
More than 60 FIRs have been lodged in the last 40 days in connection with pre-poll violence happening in Manipur, he informed, adding that over 60 individuals have been arrested in connection with the FIRs.
He said, ahead of the FIRs cases, the commission has also been taking up various suo-motu cases in connection with the poll violence. "Any instinct on poll violence, major or minor, we are acting on it," he added.
Asserting that the commission has zero tolerance towards any kind of violence and intimidation, he said the commission is in continuous engagement with the state government to nab all the culprits involved in poll violence.
As Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, which will go to polls in the first phase, are marked as hyper sensitive, larger scale of CAPF personnel are deployed in these two districts, to curb any unwanted incident.
"We are ready for the poll of first phase. Polling personnel are on the way to their respective stations. Security deployment are completed," he said adding, "we hope that the voters come out in big numbers and exercise their franchise on the poll day."
The first phase of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election will be held on Monday, February 28.
