Manipur Health Minister S Ranjan on Wednesday said in view of the possibility of a heat wave in the state. the state government has prepared guidelines which may even include rescheduling of school timing or even imposing summer break.
He was delivering the chief guest speech during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the office of the Socio Economic and Environment Development Society (SEEDS) beside the Olympian Park in Imphal West.
The impact of climate change due to environmental degradation has become an alarming issue and Manipur had witnessed a big impact of climate change this year, he said citing the drying of many rivers and big trees.
Pointing out that it is the sole responsibility of humankind for climate change and is also the ultimate responsibility of humankind to fix it, he said humankind needs to go with a balanced approach with the environment while heading towards development.
The minister called on the people of the state to take a collective pledge to plant 10 tree saplings each and ensure that the trees are fully grown by being a responsible citizen. Such will be a great initiative to save the environment and fight global warming, he added.
Environment and Climate Change joint director T Brajakumar, while speaking as a guest of honour, pointed out that environment degradation is reversible only if humans collectively change their lifestyles.
It can be started with a simple task of reducing the waste at the minimum level and acquiring the habit of recycling, he added.
The programme was also attended by Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo and vice-president of SEEDS A Robindro Sharma as presidium members.
