A consumer was disconnected from his power supply after a team of MSPDCL officials found that the connection was misused and the bills were not cleared.
A release said that house-to-house checks were carried out at residences under the jurisdiction of Kwakeithel Sub Division No II, Sangaiprou under IED-II GI. A consumer, Ksh Binodkumar of Takyel Industrial Estate (meter no M3P02201) was found to have not cleared his bills and misused the supply, it stated. Mention may be made that MSPDCL had warned of conducting drives to check electricity theft in various places and appealed to the public not to indulge in such activities. MSPDCL had announced that consumers found indulging in theft of electricity by means of bypassing prepaid energy meters, tapping of electricity without proper consent (paper-work) etc. shall be subjected to stringent legal action as per the Electricity Act, 2003.
It asserted that illegal usage of electricity is a cognizable offence and the offender is punishable with imprisonment for a term up to three years or with fine or both under the Act.
It had further warned that disconnection of power with no provision for reconnection in future may also be imposed.
