Manipur Police recovered several arms and ammunition during search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts on Tuesday.

Manipur Police recovered several arms and ammunition during search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts on Tuesday.

As per a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, the items recovered include one 12.5 Assault Rifle with Magazine, one Single shot bolt action Rifle, two 9 mm Pistol along with Magazine, one Magazine of 9 mm CMG, 15 live ammunitions, one Short range Mortar and six Anti-Riot shells from Mongjang area in Churachandpur district.

The statement also said that security forces arrested three Cadres of proscribed outfit KCP (Taibanganba) from Khongjom area. The arrestees are Konjengbam Akash, alias Pari Meitei, 33 years, Nongthombam Amujao Singh, 25 years and Amom Somendro, alais Kaleipung Meitei, 28 years, it stated.

Police also recovered two Pistols with two magazines, 19 live rounds, Rs 30,000, three mobile mobiles, four demand letters and one Alto car from their possession, it mentioned. They were reportedly involved in extortion activities, it added.

In another incident, Manipur Police also arrested six cadres of proscribed outfit RPF/PLA from Lamsang area, it stated.

The arrestees are Nandeibam Opendro Singh, alias Rishikanta, 49 years; Yumkhaibam Rakesh Singh, alais Puri, 32 years; Nangom Lakhan Singh, alais Nanao, 24 years; Wangkhem Ratan Singh, 47 years; Heisanam Deben Singh, 41 years and Moibungkhongbam Binu Meitei, 49 years, it stated.

One 9mm pistol along with one magazine, one 32 pistol along with one magazine, sixteen live ammunition, eight Mobiles phone and one Gypsy vehicle were recovered from their possession, it mentioned.

It further stated that the situation in the state was under control. It stated that movement of 236 and 290 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 123 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 61 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it added.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
