Manipur Police arrested two kidnappers who abducted Ashem Onitkumar from Santipur under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district on Sunday.
According to police, a report was lodged by Ashem Chandrakanta, 61, son of (L) A Mani Singh of Wangbal Lamboithong Leikai, Thoubal district to Heingang police station that his younger brother Ashem Onitkumar Singh (45) son of (L) A Mani of Koirengei Nepali Basti, Imphal East was kidnapped by some unknown miscreants from his shop.
A team of Heingang police acted swiftly and the victim was located at Santipur, through a mobile tower location upon investigation.
The team led by inspector K Abhijeet rushed to the said area and conducted a search operation and rescued the victim from an isolated house situated at Santipur. Further, two miscreants identified as Shamurailakpam Dhanaraj Sharma, son of Sh Surjit Sharma of Thangmeiband Fishery Gate and Naorem Lanchenba Singh, 23, son of N Inaocha Singh of Moreh Ward no VII, presently residing at Lamphel supermarket, were arrested from the spot.
The two miscreants were reportedly involved in the abduction of Onitkumar.
The team seized one pistol marked as India Made b/No. 1701 along with 8 live round ammunition of .32, one live round ammunition of 9mm, one demand letter of a UG organisation and three mobile phones from their possession. The team also seized an i20 car (MN06LA 5722, white in colour) of the victim.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the arrested individuals revealed that two other individuals who were involved in the kidnapping are still absconding. Consequently, authorities are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend these remaining suspects.
