Special Court (POCSO), Bishnupur on Friday remanded two accused in judicial custody for fifteen days in connection with the kidnapping and subsequent rape of a minor.

Two accused namely Serto Rensongam Kom, 25, son of Serto Minthang Kom of Tuirinphaisen, Churachandpur District and Haomom Viveshan Singh, 18, son of (L) H Bheigo Singh of Bishnupur Ward No. 6 were produced before the court.

The counsels of the two accused filed an application to release them on bail, claiming that they are innocent. However, special PP submitted that prima-facie case is clearly made out against the accused persons for commission of a heinous offence.

The prosecution stated that if the accused persons are released on bail at this juncture, they would intimidate and disturbed peaceful life of the victim girl and that they may also interfere in the smooth trial of the case by way of tempering the evidence and imposing threats in any possible way.

The court after considering materials on record stated that prima-facie is made out against the accused persons for commission of the alleged offences. In view of section 29 of the POCSO Act and the circumstances of the case, there are sufficient grounds for remanding the accused persons into judicial custody, stated the court.

On November 27, the minor victim’s grandmother filed a missing report that her granddaughter was missing from home since November 25 night. Following the complaint, police traced the missing girl and found the victim from the rented house of the accused Serto Rensongam. Police registered a case under section 6 of the POCSO Act.
