Armed individuals shot two people leaving one dead and the other injured at Bengoon under Mayang Imphal Police Station in Imphal West around 5.30 pm on Thursday.
As per police, the two people are cousins from Irengband village, Kakching district and they were abducted and shot by the armed individuals. Police identified the deceased as one Mayengbam Kishan son of M Ingocha Singh and the injured as Mayengbam Chetankumar son of M Nobo.
The person who sustained a bullet injury on the leg has been taken to RIMS hospital by his family member after getting first aid at PHC Mayang Imphal. Mayang Imphal Police Station registered a case on the incident.
The body has been kept at RIMS mortuary after a team of State Forensic Science laboratory mobile unit investigated the crime scene. It is speculated that the incident might be related to a case of sexually abusing women.
Meanwhile, the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) clarified that Kishan and Chetankumar are being penalised for raping a 15-year-old girl on November 24, 2023.
A release signed by assistant secretary, publicity, RPF Bangkim on Thursday said that RPF will continue to penalise people who are involved in rape cases and abuse of women. It appealed to the men to respect women, while reminding that it is also mandatory for the parents and elders to teach their children to respect women.
