Manipur: One dies, another injured in gunfight

A gunfight took place between unknown armed miscreants and Kuki militants at Joupi village in Kangpokpi district on Saturday.

One person was killed while another was left injured in a gunfight between unknown armed miscreants and Kuki militants at Joupi village, which is 35 km south from Keithelmanbi police station, Kangpokpi district on Saturday.

As per police, the gunfight took place from 1.30 am till 2 am. The deceased is identified as one Khupminthang Haokip 24, son of Jangkholal Haokip of Phaikholum village Churachandpur.

A team of additional SP (Ops) Kangpokpi, OC New Keithelmanbi and 19- AR rushed to the area on receiving information about the incident but the dead body and the injured person had already been shifted to Churachandpur when they arrived at the scene, added the reports.

Sources said that seven kuki militants were killed in the incident and three weapons have been taken.

Meanwhile, one Kuki individual reportedly died after Kuki militants carried out an ambush at Tingkai Khunou suspecting them as their enemy under the jurisdiction of New Keithelmanbi Police station, Kangpokpi District at around 1.20 am on Monday.

The deceased is one Thangjaman Haokip, 30, son of Henkhongam Haokip of Thangsi Village Churachandpur. Churachandpur Police Station registered a case on the incident and later transferred the case to New Keithelmanbi Police station, as per sources.
