A non-local sustained bullet injury on his left leg after being shot by miscreants at Thokchom Louyai under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal District around 4.40 pm on Saturday.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. According to police, the victim has been identified as Sayeed Farooque Zama, 40, hailing from Gosai Gaon, Athiabari, in Kokrajar district, Assam. He presently resides at a plywood factory in Wangjing Sabal Leikai under Khongjom Police Station where he is employed as a labourer.
Farooque was reportedly abducted, alongside a Meitei female labourer, from the plywood factory during the late hours of Friday and Saturday by unidentified miscreants. The female laborer has been identified as Nungshithoi from Keirak in Kakching district. Unfortunately, her whereabouts remain unknown till the time of filing this report.
Following the incident, a team of Thoubal police provided first aid to Farooque at Thoubal District Hospital and later admitted him to Raj Medicity, in Imphal for further medical attention.
Meanwhile, a hand grenade suspected to have been placed by miscreants was found at the outhouse of chief conservator of Forest department Longjam Joykumar Meitei, 58, son of (L) L Kuber Singh Meitei around 10 am on Saturday.
Longjam Joykumar’s residence is located at Wangoi Longjam Leikai under Wangoi police station, Imphal West. The Police team is waiting for the State Bomb Disposal Squad at the time of filing this report.
